Wedding Photography & Videography Tips for the Couple

Your wedding day is one of the most special and important days of your life! You will want to capture every moment of it with beautiful photos and videos so that you can cherish as well as relive this memorable day forever. This blog will share a few tips and tricks straight from our wedding photo + video team for any soon-to-be married couple. From wedding planning tips, to advice for during and after the wedding, we hope this blog can be helpful as you prepare for your big day by having the best wedding photography and videography team.

5 Tips for Before Your Wedding

Do your research. Before you pick a photography and videography team to capture your precious wedding memories, be sure to do in depth research on their style, portfolio, reviews, and packages. Make sure their vision matches yours and that they can deliver what you want within your budget and timeline. Check out photographer and videographer teams using wedding planning vendors such as: The Knot, Wedding Wire, Style Me Pretty, Brides, Basic Invite, Maharani Weddings, and Martha Weddings. You can also ask for referrals from your friends or family who have recently gotten married and were happy with their results. *We highly recommend having both photo and video at your wedding to capture ALL of your wedding moments. Most importantly, we always encourage couples to book their wedding photography and videography with the same team because it offers several benefits that could make your wedding experience a whole lot better! Be mindful of your invite list. This special occasion is all about you and your partner. There is no need to bloat your guest list to please others. Invite only people that matter to you and your partner for your special day because that will make your wedding the most memorable.

Create a mood board or vision board. It is a great idea to take the time to find and compile your favorite wedding photo and video inspiration to help your photographer and videographer capture your memories in the way that you envision. These can be from Pinterest, Instagram, etc. It is super duper helpful for us as the photo + video team because it gives us a better idea of what you dream of so that we can capture your day in the best way possible.

Communicate your expectations. Once you have picked your wedding photography and videography team, it is important to clearly communicate your expectations. Talk about what kind of photos and videos you want, what moments are important to you, what style and mood you prefer, and any special requests or preferences you have. This is the perfect time to share your mood board/vision board! You can even share some examples of photos and videos that you dislike to give them a better idea of your taste. Also, don’t be afraid to ask questions and to share feedback along the way. Open communication is key!

Have an Engagement photoshoot session. Before getting overwhelmed with wedding planning, you and your partner should schedule an Engagment photoshoot! There are several reasons why you will not regret having professional portraits of you and your partner. Engagement pictures are much more than a fun way to celebrate your love and show off your bling. Photoshoot sessions with your fiancé are also a beautiful way to bond intimately with your partner. Plus, it is a valuable opportunity to capture your unique relationship, connect with your wedding photographer, as well as prepare for being in front of the camera on your big day. Not to mention, your photos will make for gorgeous wedding invitations as well as sentimental decor for your wedding and your home! Plan out your schedule (with extra cushion time). Planning out your wedding day schedule is crucial for ensuring that you have enough time for all of your wedding photography and videography shots. Always try to add extra cushion time for your getting ready portion of the day because this is the most common reason why a wedding gets behind schedule. The last thing you'll want is to rush through your photos and videos or miss out on any important moments. Rushing can be stressful and can make it hard to cherish each moment. Our major tip is to work with your wedding photography and videography team to create a realistic and flexible timeline that covers all of the events and locations that you want to capture. Make sure to include some buffer time for unexpected delays or changes because something is bound to go wrong or change on your wedding day (and that's okay!). You can also assign a point person, such as a friend or a even hire a wedding coordinator, to help you keep track of the time and communicate with the vendors on the day of your wedding.

3 Tips for During Your Wedding

Know that this is all about you and your partner. Remember that your wedding day is YOUR special day. The most important thing is for you and your partner to enjoy it together.

Relax and enjoy. The most important tip for your wedding photography and videography is to relax and enjoy your wedding day. Don’t worry too much about the little details or the camera or eyes on you. Trust your wedding photography and videography team. Just focus on cherishing your fun time celebrating with your loved ones as much as possible. And of course, remember to take a good breather every so often. The more natural, relaxed, and authentic you are, the more beautiful and memorable your photos and videos will be!

Be yourself. Another tip for your wedding photography and videography is to be yourself. Don’t try to pose or act in a way that is not comfortable or natural for you. Just be yourself and express your natural personality and natural emotions. Your wedding photography and videography team will be there to guide you and direct you when needed, but also know they will capture your spontaneous moments. We love these candid moments because they can beautifully reflect who you are as a couple and as individuals.

3 Tips for After Your Wedding

Be patient. After your wedding day, it is totally normal to be eager to see all your photos and videos ASAP. However, it is important to remain patient and understand that your wedding photography and videography team needs time to edit and deliver your final products. Both photo and video editing is a complex and time-consuming process that requires major attention to detail and quality hard-work. Depending on the size and scope of your wedding, it might take a few weeks or even months for your wedding photography and videography team to complete your photo gallery and wedding film highlight and documentary. Trust your photo + video team to do their work and respect their timeline. They will keep you updated and informed along the way and let you know when your photos and videos are ready. The anticipation is definitely not ideal, but the wait will be worth it!

Give feedback. Once you receive your photos and videos, you can give feedback to help achieve the look you desire. Tell your photographer/videographer what you like and dislike about their work and how they met or exceeded your expectations. If it is notes on your wedding film, be sure to add the time-code for where you have feedback (EX: 1:43 - put in slow mo). You can also share your photos and videos with your family and friends and ask for their opinions. Feedback is important for your wedding photography and videography team to improve their skills and services. We always want to make sure you and your partner are happy and satisfied with the final products!

Show appreciation. The final tip for your wedding photography and videography is to show appreciation to your team. It truly means the world when you take the time to thank us for our work. Whether you liked your team for their hard work and dedication or for capturing your wedding day in the best way possible. Some ways to show your appreciation include: writing a review/testimonial, giving them a tip, tagging/shouting them out on social media (ex: Instagram or Facebook), or sending them a gift to express your gratitude. Your wedding photography and videography team will appreciate any gesture!
